50% Chance of a white Christmas
Snow Forecast Issued: 2008-10-12 13:00:00
Next Forecast: 2008-10-19 13:00:00
Synopsis
The outlook for Christmas week still looks rather cool and showery. A northerly or northeasterly airflow is still expected across the UK, bringing an increasing chance of wintry showers to Scotland and possibly eastern England. With predicted temperatures just above freezing across many parts of Highland Scotland, snow is possible on the mountains and even sleet may be possible at low levels. This has lead to a slight increase once again in the % chance of a White Christmas across Scotland, but even there the chance remains less than 50%. Further south snow at this stage seems unlikely. Temperatures are generally expected to range from 3-6C in the North and 4-8C further south, although some places in southwest England may peak at 10C. Strong northerly winds forecast along the east coast will make it feel quite cold. In general, a cool and showery Christmas day is expected with snow possible in Scotland.
