Synopsis
Early indications from the long range models for Christmas day at the moment suggest quite a changeable theme dominating around the Christmas period. The charts seem keen lately to put the UK in a westerly airflow with spells of rain at times however it seems in the far North of Scotland, the 528dam line will never be too far away therefore a slightly higher risk of something wintry here than the rest of the country. As it looks so marginal at this time, higher ground would be in a much better position to receive anything at the slightest wintry. At this time the charts suggest the rest of the UK being fairly mild with the heaviest of precipitation towards the South West. So, in summary we currently expect Christmas 2009 to be mild and perhaps wet for most though the far North of Scotland maybe never too far away from a higher risk of snow.
