Synopsis
A Polar Maritime airmass covers the UK on Monday. Showers will affect the areas metnioned above from midnight onwards, some may be heavy and possibly thundery. As the day wears on, they will gradually turn more wintry for the Peaks in Snowdonia and the Lake District. In Scotland many of the showers will be of Snow from dawn. Elsewhere some showers may be of some sleet especially in the heaviest of precipitation. In the mountains of Scotland accumulations are likely with a couple of centimetres possible and perhaps over 5cm on the peaks. The Lake District and Snowdonia could see a light covering over the tops though lower levels should see little, if any accumulations, which will only be temporary due to the ground still being fairly warm. A strong North/North Westerly wind will make it feel bitterly cold during Monday especially over the mountains where conditions could be quite dangerous when combined with Snow. The Wind Chill effect is likely to be close to or sub zero. It will be slippery underfoot after any precipitation and even more dangerous where snow has fallen.
