Synopsis
After a very wintry day on Tuesday, it is set to continue into Wednesday. The showers that have been battering Scotland for the past few days will finally die away with only isolated showers continuing in the northeast. Attention is then drawn to a front coming in from the west which, as it meets the cold air, is likely to turn to sleet and snow particularly over higher ground, but not exclusively. The worst snow is expected to be across Northern Ireland, where up to 10cm is possible over high ground and a few centimetres possible at lower levels. As the front spreads into Western Scotland, North West England, Wales, The West Midlands and South West England it may also turn to sleet and possibly snow for a time, although this will only be on the moors in the southwest. Temporary coverings elsewhere are possible for a short while before the precipitation turns back to rain. Conditions may be hazardous so extra caution is advised.
