Snow Forecast Issued: 2008-11-09 00:05:00
Valid: 2008-11-09 01:00:00 - 2008-11-10 00:59:00
Regions Affected
Northern Ireland, Western Scotland, Southern Uplands, The Lake District, Pennines & Snowdonia (Mostly Above 500 Metres).
Synopsis
An intense Canadian blast follows behind the cold front clearing eastwards during the early hours. The polar maritime airmass will allow showers to develop from the start of the forecast period, pushing into many western areas where above approximately 500 metres in the north, may begin to turn to sleet or wet snow in the heavier bursts. Some showers may filter to eastern parts, however these will be few and far between, and mainly light. Accumulations will only be on higher ground and even here it will quickly thaw away after any snow. Showers may merge to longer spells of rain or wintry precipitation on Sunday, particularly in western Scotland later in the day, so there may be a temporary dusting here. Conditions may be slippery underfoot in any snow, so caution is strongly advised.
