Synopsis
Friday sees an Arctic airmass move southwards down the eastern side of the UK. Strong winds will drive showers into much of Scotland and down North East England throughout the day. They will be of a wintry mix, and will fall as snow in Scotland, but during the afternoon they are expected to turn increasingly to snow, especially on hills. The Cairngorms in particular may see sever centimetres of snow accumulating, causing very tricky conditions in the mountains with a severe wind chill. Some sleet/snow showers may fall in the Sleet area outlined, although these are expected to be very few and far between. Accumulatons can be expected albeit only temporary for most exposed to the showers, though the hills may see a longer and thicker covering. We are also watching for the possibility of a few wintry showers moving into Wales and The West Midlands on Friday Evening, and so an update may be required nearer the time. Conditions may be dangerous in the snow so please take great care when out and about.
