Synopsis
After a prolonged period of HIGH pressure, LOW pressure has started dominating the UK's weather. During Wednesday, as the centre of the LOW heads into the North Sea, the winds will swing round to the north, bringing much colder air southwards. Bands of rain or showers will also move south, especially during the morning across Scotland where they may be locally very heavy with hail. Cold, gusty winds will also accompany the showers and later in the day the showers are likely to turn increasingly wintry above approximately 1100metres. Accumulations are unlikely at this stage as the ground is fairly warm, but overnight the snow level is likely to drop a little so a dusting is almost possible by Thursday dawn. Conditions in the mountains may become hazardous so extra caution is advised.
