Synopsis
Once again, LOW pressure is dominating the UK's weather, setting up a cold Arctic airstream. During Thursday frequent showers in western Scotland are likely to turn to sleet and snow above (approximately) 800 metres. Whilst these will be scattered, a more prolonged area of rain, sleet and snow is likely to affect Northern Scotland during the evening, given a few centimetres in places. It will feel very cold, with a significant windchill effect, especially in heavy showers. Away from the summits, accumulations are unlikely as the ground is still fairly warm but any snowmelt could make the ground quite slippery and hazardous, so extra caution is advised. Overnight the snow level is expected to slowly drop further as colder air arrives, bringing the threat of wintry precipitation to lower levels.
