Synopsis
An occluded front has pushed quickly across most of England and Wales throughout this morning, but will linger over Northern England, Southern Scotland and parts of Northern Ireland throughout the afternoon. Just behind the occlusion a trough of heavy showers will develop, this process has already started. The showers will push northwards during the day, but some may contain some hail, thunder and lightning and possibly a funnel cloud or tornado, with torrential downpours at times. The wrap-around occlusion, associated with the LOW pressure system, has moved back into SW England, Wales and SW Ireland during the late morning, bringing some torrential downpours in places. These torrential showers will push north and east through the rest of this afternoon into the Midlands and Central Southern England this evening. There is a threat for some hail, thunder and lightning, a tornado development and flash flooding. Gusty gale force winds will also affect the south and west coasts, slowly easing a little later.
