Synopsis
A cold front will bring some showery rain into Northern Ireland during the early hours of Thursday morning, this then creeping into southwest Scotland by dawn. As the cold front sinks further southeast, it is likely to intensify and become a more organised band of rain, especially across Wales and northern England where some heavy bursts are likely, especially over the hills. A rumble of thunder is possible too. Behind the cold front, a trough is expected to develop over Northern Ireland which will then push into southern Scotland during the afternoon. This is likely to bring some heavy showers, with the risk of some hail and thunder, and these will move into Northern England during the evening. The main rain band will get into the Midlands from mid-afternoon and a few light showers are possible just ahead of it. It will then continue to move southeastwards during the evening and overnight, but the main energy will move into the North Sea, just introducing thicker cloud and some light showery rain at times in southern England. An occluded front will bring some light and patchy rain to Northern Scotland, Orkney and Shetland for much of the day, this mostly dying during the evening.
