Storm Forecast Issued: 22:06 Monday, 30th June 2008
Valid: 2008-07-01 00:00:00 - 2008-07-02 00:00:00

Regions Affected
Southeast England and parts of East Anglia

Synopsis
Ahead of an advancing cold front moving east, situated over Western Scotland and Northern Ireland during the early hours, a warm, moist and unstable airmass will sit over central and eastern UK. This will ensure daytime temperatures will reach the mid-high twenties (°C). Daytime heating will cause thunderstorms to develop over central and western France, moving in a northerly track. These may form a MCS which would be capable of producing hail and perhaps a tornado. The storms may clip southeast England during the late evening, and maybe eastern parts of East Anglia towards the end of this forecast period. Another area of interest is around the cold front. There may be some heavy downpours within the rainband, perhaps a rumble of thunder. Also just ahead of the advancing front, as it moves into the warm and unstable airmass, some scattered heavy and possible thundery showers may develop. These are most likely to occur during the late afternoon and evening, over east Wales, northwest England, West Midlands and parts of southwest England. These will probably die away during the late evening though as the front advances further east, introducing cooler and fresher conditons from the west. We will monitor the situation during Tuesday and may issue an update if necessary.
