Synopsis
A trough is expected to bring a cluster of heavy showers to southwest England, south Wales and Ireland by the end of the night. There is a chance that some may contain a few rumbles of thunder. During the morning this trough will push the showers into Northern Ireland, where it may become a longer spell of heavy, persistent and thundery rain, with torrential downpours at times leading to localised flooding. Scattered heavy and possibly thundery showers are expected over England and Wales, most likely to be thundery over central regions. Some may contain some hail and there is a low risk of a funnel cloud. The trough will clear the southwest and south Wales during the afternoon, bringing less showers and drier weather here. However, across Ireland, behind the trough, a few scattered showers may form which may also be thundery, with some hail and the risk of a funnel cloud also. Showers will also develop over Western & Southern Scotland, most likely in the late morning onwards, which may be heavy and thundery. Most showers, which at times may contain some gusty winds, will die away during the evening after sunset, but the rain over Northern Ireland will push into western Scotland during the late evening and overnight.
