Synopsis
Any thundery showers around this evening are expected to die away after sunset, leaving a mainly dry and clear night. However, a warm front will continue producing light to moderate bursts of rain over Shetland throughout tonight which may clip Orkney during Friday - this may produce a few rumbles of thunder. Elsewhere an occlusion approaches the southwest of England during Friday morning, bringing some rain which will then edge into south Wales and southern Ireland during the afternoon. One or two showers are possible over the West Midlands, but mainly light. A trough over Scotland will allow showers to develop during the day, some heavy with some hail at times, and these mainly confined to northern and western Scotland. There is also a chance of a few rumbles of thunder too. These will ease after sunset, but as the occlusion clears southern parts of Ireland during the evening and overnight, showers and thunderstorms are expected here as the centre of a LOW pressure system moves in, some locally heavy. The occlusion will continue to bring some heavy rain in a fairly narrow band across Wales and western England until the end of this period, with some heavy downpours in places.
